It’s easy to get caught up with the day-to-day, and put aside those situations which make the day-to-day actually worth living. Case in point, I was invited to dinner with women of various careers in the culinary arts; women I knew from a lifetime ago. It was utterly delightful! I’d forgotten how satisfying it is to be in the company of women with similar interests.

The goal is to get together every other month for dinner, “share experiences, network and obsess about food & wine.” I highly recommend it.
The evening featured the likes of Kimberly (landscape architect, foodie & friend extraordinaire), Rebecca (Macrina sales rep), Naomi (Noble Wines distributor), Leslie (creator of Macrina Bakery & Cafes and cookbook author), and me.

Rebecca started us out with fried prosciutto-wrapped prawns & sage. Naomi, bless her heart, kept our glasses filled all night with delicious wines of local female vintners. We were then treated with Leslie’s Spanish-style braised pork with crispy potatoes and black bean-cilantro salad. That was followed up by greens tossed with fig-walnut vinaigrette, butter-roasted figs, walnuts, along with one Spanish and one local cheese and crackers. And if that weren’t enough, Rebecca spooned up some apple crisp and Stumptown coffee.
The food and wine were amazing, of course, but it couldn’t hold a candle to the invigorating conversation of art, philosophy, religion, racism, men & women, women & women, and even, Manifest Destiny. I know, right? Foodie chicks swilling wine, nibbling prawns, and debating the merits of Manifest Destiny -- girls really do just want to have fun.
