Darren, Karra, Andrew & Kimberly
My friend Andrew is classically debonaire - he reminds me of a 1940s movie star (especially when he calls me “doll”).
In a nutshell, Andrew values quality over quantity (in workmanship & people), continually supports the little guy, and has an uncanny sixth sense about most facets of the restaurant business (seriously, sometimes it’s freaky). Last week we had the distinct pleasure of attending his birthday celebration.
If I ever throw myself a birthday party, I’m doing it “Andrew style” - - surrounded by a handful of treasured, colorful friends (who feel more like family), grazing on amazing food at La Medusa, and toasting with Champagne poured from a super-colossal, über-swanky bottle of Boizel (thanks, Ed & Bennie!).
La Medusa, a cozy restaurant in Columbia City, is a wonderful gathering place for such an occasion. Julie & her staff sent out a continuous parade of succulent, straightforward Sicilian dishes. The evening had all the pleasure & unexpected delights of a Roman feast (sans the lounge chairs, belly dancers, gorging and pretension, of course). Thanks again, Andrew, we had a marvelous time!
Andrew’s Birthday Dinner Menu @La Medusa:
- Marcona Almonds
- Warm Mixed Olives
- Roasted Cauliflower, Pine Nuts, Raisins, Spiced Butter
- Grilled Octopus in Charmoula with Crisp Chickpeas
- Bread from Columbia City Bakery
- Citrus Salad, Fennel, Red Onion Agrodolce, Avocado
- Greens, Breadcrumbs, Red Wine Vinaigrette, Parmigiano
- Pizza with Pancetta, Broccoli Rabe, Taleggio
- Pizza with Tomato Sauce, Arugula, Prosciutto
- Spaghetti, Tuna Meatballs, Tomato, Pine Nuts, Oregano
- House Cut Noodles, Squash, Rapini, Brown Butter, Sage

A beautiful night for a deserving boy. Have a good year Andrew!
