Day after tomorrow begins a new season of Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations, the only food show that opens each segment with an inappropriate content warning.
If you don’t have the Travel Channel, it’s worth shelling out a few extra bucks just for this show. Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t always a Bourdain fan – he reminded me so much of this tall, dark haired, arrogant, pseudo show-off I went to culinary school with, I couldn’t get past the fact that this other tall, dark haired, arrogant, showy guy was completely different. In fact, Tony is not even close to Toby. Blink..blink. The huge difference is that Bourdain has substance – he’s an authority on food, his sarcastic wit is unmatched & he goes to the ends of the earth to try anything once. You have to respect that.
Bourdain’s show is pure, unadulterated Bourdain (although a few times when he’s unabashedly socking it to an innocent party just doing their thing, I wonder if it’s his producer that wrangles it in, or edits the last five things said that may have towed the general public’s tolerance/good humor line). However true the show is to Bourdain’s character, this is must-see-tv. He shows you the world of food & the cultures that create it as only he can; with grit, integrity and respect. And if you can get through the show without craving lots of alcohol, sex and cigarettes, you’re stronger than most.
