Known for publishing stunning coffee table books and their spectacular two-story window, Rizzoli Bookstore on 5th Avenue is a New York institution.
In 1974 Rizzoli published books on art, architecture, haute couture, gastronomy, etc., but in 1990 they expanded to include pop culture, the performing arts and alternative lifestyles.
For me, the greatest little corner in all four stories is the Italian (language) cookbook section - only in Italy did I see a larger selection. My Italian isn’t fluent (to say the least), but I do enjoy flipping through the pages and pretending - I know the majority of food words and of course, measurements, but I’m at a loss with the instructions. But I still own a few anyway – they sure are purdy.
