Of course, thank God Gore invented the internet and Bush hasn’t banned it – you can get almost anything online. But if you happen to be in New York, check out Kitchen Arts & Letters – there’s nothing like touching, looking through, and being in the presence of rare, odd, out-of-print or hard-to-find cookbooks. (That sounds a little creepier than it actually is.)
Owner Nach Waxman is incredibly knowledgeable on new, old, rarely-hear-of, out-of-print, anthologies, obscure published food papers, authors, culinary forums, etc. Culinarily speaking, I don’t think there’s anything he doesn’t know. And if your conversations lead to something he doesn’t have (even in the basement), Nach knows where to find it. I think he’s as much of a treasure as some of the books he holds.
Check out the website for basic ordering information, new releases and to sign up for the newsletter; for specific book needs, phone, fax or write.
