Dena DeRose returned to the states to record one last cd, live at Jazz Standard with the rest of her trio, Martin Wind & Matt Wilson. And I was there.
I clapped & wooed loudly. (I’m hoping to hear myself in the background – not sure, the cd hasn’t yet been released.) Man, they are astoundingly good... mezmerizingly good.
During the set, there were plenty of improvisational solos to go around. Dena’s seemingly effortless voice & piano are captivating, Matt’s drums arousing, and Martin’s bass, well, it just gets deep into your soul. Their sultry style feels like being wrapped in cashmere.
After the concert, Dena returned to her (fairly new) life in Europe. She will be missed here in the states; we’ll just have to settle with the cds. So keep checking amazon and i-tunes for the live taping at Jazz Standard – and let me know if you can hear my “woooo!”
